JUNIOR LEAGUE OF RICHMOND HOSTS COMMUNITY-WIDE BOOK SCAVENGER HUNT

Books for children, young adults, and adults will be hidden throughout the Richmond region on September 17 in conjunction with Find the Good Day

RICHMOND, VA, September 9, 2026 – The Junior League of Richmond will celebrate Find the Good Day on Thursday, September 17 with a community-wide book scavenger hunt to promote literacy and the love of reading. Find the Good Day encourages individuals to recognize and celebrate the positive aspects of their communities and take action to uplift others.

Throughout the day, members of the Junior League of Richmond will be placing more than 1,500 books for children, young adults, and adults at locations throughout the Richmond region. Community members are invited to use the scavenger hunt map available at https://www.jlrichmond.org/findthegoodday/ to find a book, take it home, and share their discovery on Instagram by tagging @jlrichmondva and #FindTheGoodDay. 

“Books have the power to bring people together, foster understanding, and spark curiosity,” said Dagny Barone, President of the Junior League of Richmond. “We’re celebrating Find the Good Day by inviting everyone to participate in a book scavenger hunt. We hope people will have fun searching for a book, finding a new favorite, and finding a little more good in Richmond along the way.”

The book scavenger hunt highlights the Junior League of Richmond’s commitment to literacy, one of five priority areas within the League’s new community focus of “Women Building Better Communities.”  Launched during the League’s centennial year, the expanded community focus also includes Health & Wellness, Supporting Families, Active Kids, and Housing. The new community focus broadens opportunities for members to engage in impactful volunteer work while strengthening partnerships across the Richmond region.

A community-wide book scavenger hunt is a simple way to turn one of our community priorities, literacy, into an experience that everyone can enjoy,” said Lindsey Worrix, Junior League of Richmond’s Vice President of Community. “We hope the book scavenger hunt inspires people to rediscover the joy of reading, explore their community, and see the good happening all around Richmond.” 

Find the Good Day is an opportunity to celebrate the individuals, organizations, and volunteers making a difference in their communities while inspiring others to get involved. The Junior League of Richmond invites everyone to participate, whether by finding a book, volunteering, or simply performing an act of kindness.
