Little Black Dress Event

Monday, November 16, 2020 - Friday, November 20, 2020

The Little Black Dress Initiative is a poverty awareness campaign.

The Little Black Dress Initiative (#LBDI) is a week-long awareness and fundraising campaign that harnesses the power of social media and doing something “a little different” in order to educate people about local issues that Leagues work on in their communities.

In Richmond, our LBDI will underscore our new focus of “Women Helping Women” and raise awareness about women in poverty in Richmond. This year’s funds will go to the Junior League of Richmond’s Annual Fund which helps support our League’s programming around “Women Helping Women.” Our goal is to raise $20,000 for our Annual Fund.

Junior League of Richmond LBDI Advocates wear the same black dress or outfit for five consecutive days to illustrate the restrictions poverty places on choices, opportunities, and access to resources. By wearing a button that reads “Ask Me About My Dress,” they invite dialogue among colleagues, friends, and strangers to raise awareness about women in poverty in Richmond.

This event will occur between November 16-20, 2020.
