The Southside Child Development Center: Families First committee provides programs, special events and services which promote the stability and well-being of the children and families in the Bainbridge and Blackwell areas of Richmond, Virginia. These programs are held at the Southside Child Development Center and focus on a Pre-Elementary age population. Junior League members coordinate regular programs on a variety of topics including parenting, self-esteem, health issues, practical life skills, and educational enrichment. Workshops for the parents are conducted by trained professionals and include a discussion component, as well as time for food and fellowship. The children participate in other activities usually related to healthy living and receive a nutritious meal. Junior League volunteers work closely with the Center's administration to respond to the specific needs of families and students and to provide appropriate resources.
