New Member Requirements

1. Pay New Member dues of $165 ($65 new member fee + $100 annual dues)

The $65 New Member fee offsets the cost of the New Member course. The annual dues defray the cost of League operating and training expenses. $35 of each member's dues goes to the Association of Junior Leagues International which defrays the cost of training and support provided to all Junior Leagues.

2. Attend Super Saturday

Super Saturday is the kickoff meeting of the New Member Course and its purpose is to provide an orientation to the Junior League and its role in our community. Super Saturday will also give New Members an overview of the New Member Course and it requirements. It is a fun and relaxing way to begin meeting members outside your New Member small group as well as members of the League Leadership Team.

3. Participate in one New Member Designated Community Event

This will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet new women while having a great time volunteering in our community! There will be many opportunities to join a small group of women during the year for a community project that needs some extra hands - everything from painting a map of the United States on a school playground to helping with a special event for foster children.

4. Complete 4 Leadership Development Courses

These 4 courses are taught by the faculty of the Junior League of Richmond's Training Institute for Leadership Impact (TILI). The 4 New Member courses serve as a stepping stone to the vast array of offerings taught by TILI to help build women and the Richmond Community.

5. Complete 18 Hours of Volunteer Hours at the Clothes Rack

The Clothes Rack, our "thrift shop", is our largest fundraiser - raising 1/3 of our annual revenue. The Clothes Rack is also a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your small group.

6. Complete a shift at the the Kids in the Kitchen Event

In February of 2006, Junior Leagues from across four countries implemented an international initiative called Junior Leagues' Kids in the Kitchen, designed to help communities address the urgent issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition. Under the leadership of the Kids in the Kitchen Committee, New Members will volunteer for a shift at the Association of Junior Leagues International signature project for the children in the Richmond Community.

7. Attend 3 New Member Meetings

These meetings are designed just for New Members. The New Member Meetings present an opportunity for New Members to meet and socialize with one another, listen to the motivational words of guest speakers and discuss topics unique to New Members. The goal of these meetings is to make the transition from a New Member to an Active Member easier.

8. Attend 2 General Membership Meeting

General Membership Meetings are an important part of the life of an Active Member in the League. Not only do the meetings provide a forum for communicating information and celebrating success, they also provide the opportunity to be reminded of the League's mission and to experience camaraderie with those who share our purpose.

9. Work one 3 hour shift at an event OR Purchase Tickets for an Event (Number of Tickets per event may vary)

In order to build the Richmond Community, financial resources are needed. The funds raised through ticket sales and the use of volunteer woman-power allows the League to use financial resources to make more of an impact in the community. The support of New Members is invaluable!

10. Complete 3 Electives (Personal Choice Options)

Our New Members enjoy the League for a variety of reasons; to impact the community, to meet new people, to participate in fun activities. Therefore, three additional requirements are your choice. In addition to the requirements listed above, you will select three (3) additional requirements from: Done-In-A-Day, TILI course, 3 hour Clothes Rack shift, General Membership Meeting, working a 3 hour shift at an event, or purchase tickets for an event (number of tickets per event may vary). You may select three of the same aspect of the League to meet the Elective requirements (for example: three Done-in-A-Days) or any combination of the 6 options listed above.

11. Attend 1 Advisor-Facilitated Social

Our most satisfied members are ones who have made connections to other women in the League as well as who have had positive experiences impacting the community! To help facilitate these relationships, you will be assigned to a small group with a New Member Advisor. Your Advisor will help guide you through your New Member Experience and will connect you with opportunities to meet new people, develop your skills, and impact the community. She will host a number of social opportunities throughout the year during which she will offer advice and mentoring that our new members find invaluable!

12. Attend 1 Advisor Requirements "Check- In" Meeting

Halfway through the year, each New Member will meet with her advisor to ensure she is on track with her New Member requirements and also to discuss what she is interested in doing for her placement the following year.

13. Participation in the New Member Project

14. Pay 2009-2010 Active Member Dues of $133
